Before some of you start commenting, Where’s
Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Brock Lesnar, Bobby
Lashley, CM Punk, Batista or Alberto Del Rio
for that matter? Yes, they are all trained
in martial arts and have competed in MMA,
however, we are pretty sure by now that you
know that. So in this list we are going to
include some WWE wrestlers that you might
be surprised have a background in martial
Number 5 – Rusev
If Rusev wasn’t already a big, Bulgarian
Brute there is only more to add with his background
in martial arts. Shortly after his debut in
Florida Championship Wrestling, now re-branded
into NXT, Rusev tore both his anterior cruciate
ligament and his meniscus. After months of
rehabilitation, Rusev made his return and
shortly after suffered a second injury but
this time, he broke his neck and temporarily
paralysed one of his arms in the process.
While undergoing rehabilitation for the second
time, Rusev travelled to Thailand, where he
learned the martial art of Muay Thai, which
focuses on stand-up striking along with clinching
techniques. It is no wonder that Rusev has
some deadly kicks incorporated in his move
Number 4 – Santino Marella
Behind his comedic gimmick with a devastating
Cobra Strike finishing move, yes very deadly
indeed, Santino Marella actually has a background
in judo. In fact, his early gimmick back in
WWE’s developmental territory, OVW, was
“Boris Alexiev”, a Russian mixed martial
arts gimmick, who would dominate his opponents
with stiff strikes and submission holds. Prior
to his WWE wrestling career, Marella trained
in the original Battle Arts academy in Japan,
where he was taught shoot wrestling and a
little bit of mixed martial arts. Following
this, he went on to pursue a career in MMA
and claimed to hold a 6-1 record. However,
official records only state one match, in
which he lost in just 26 seconds after being
knocked out by Takashi Ishino. But we will
just forget about that…
Number 3 – Maryse
This may come as a surprise to some but Maryse
is actually one tough female you do not want
to mess with. She holds a black belt in Kyokushin
Karate, a style of stand-up, full-contact
Karate, which she practiced since the age
of eight. She even won her first competition
at the age of 12 in Kyokushin Karate. Not
only this but Maryse is also trained in judo
and practices kickboxing, which she enjoys
incorporating into her fitness regime as it
makes her feel like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider,
according to her.
Number 2 – The Undertaker
Mean Mark can be mean whenever he wants to
as he is trained in martial arts and kickboxing
and has a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under
Steve Williams. The Undertaker is an avid
fan of MMA and has attended many UFC shows.
In an interview, he even stated that he would
have liked to pursue a career in Mixed Martial
Arts had it been more popular in his youth.
The Undertaker’s background in martial arts
is the reason why he wears padded fighting
gloves to the ring and is a reflection to
why he is known as “The Best Pure Striker
In WWE” as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu focuses on
grappling and ground fighting. In addition,
his deadly Hell’s Gate submission manoeuvre,
a modified gogoplata, is also inspired by
Mixed Martial Arts.
Number 1 – Kane
Who would have thought that the Big Red Monster
Kane, is trained in martial arts? Kane is
trained in mixed martial arts and early in
his wrestling career, he did some shoot style
MMA fights in Japan under the company, Fujiwara-Gumi.
You can watch a young Glenn Jacobs grapple
around with his opponent and perform lots
of submission manoeuvres. Following this,
he went on to appear as Jerry Lawler’s private
dentist, Issac Yankem, which was a tooth-ache
of a gimmick…I’m sorry I had to…and
then was introduced as the Big Red Monster
gimmick that we love, Kane.

  1. But Santino looks a small underrated wwe roster in the ring, right? his action won't reveals that he ever trained martial art in his life..he is just like a comedian to me…anyway awesome video.

  2. Urgh, where's Ken Shamrock? Dan Severen? Brock Lesnar? Bobby Lashley? CM Punk? Batista? Or Alberto Del Rio for that matter?

  3. I question the legit and of Undertakers black belt. It takes about 10 hard years to get a real black belt in BJJ, time that he doesn't have and a body that doesn't cooperate.

  4. if you are going to make videos dont open them by being a little girl about the comments people will leave.

  5. takers bjj black belt is more like an "honorable black belt"
he's not actually at the level of a bjj black belt

  6. Technically all of the superstars within the wwe know martial arts as wrestling is actually a martial art…

  7. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎✌✌✌✌✌

  8. I knew Undertaker had Experience in Boxing & other things. those fast hands he have & great deal of Power.

all his Jabs can hurt if he done in Real Life

  9. What about Baron Corbin? He was a two time golden glove boxing champion and boxing is a martial art.

  10. I didn't know that's Santino Marella Wes trained in mixed martial arts WWE Maryse I knew remember the storyline with the martial arts instructor

  11. "Which wrestlers know martial arts?"
The answer is all of them. Whether they'd be good in a fight is irrelevant. They all studied wrestling.

  12. Cm punk does know martial arts u fuckin dumbass he’s a black belt n Brazilian jujitsu 1 of the deadliest fighting styles n the world he couldn’t use it n wwe cuz it was 2 dangerous but he could n ufc

  13. Not sure how many people know this, but Shinsuke Nakamura's trained in Vale Tudo. He was actually an MMA fighter before he transitioned to professional wrestling.

  14. If you guys ever do a 5 more of this list I would add Shinsuke Nakamura, Aleister Black, Rob Van Dam, Low Ki, and Ronda Rousey. I would say to add Asuka as an honorable mention but I can't seem to find any information about whether or not she has a martial arts background. However I do know what the others are trained in.

    Shinsuke Nakamura – Vale Tudo

    Aleister Black – Kickboxing

Rob Van Dam – Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Karate, and Kendo

    Low Ki – Aikido

    Ronda Rousey – Judo

  15. that's why undertaker wears gloves got that. so why do goldberg wear them ? and i did'nt hear his name so tell me mr know it all?

  16. I always wanted to see some mix martial arts tricking with pro wrestling be cool to see flip kicks and stuff like that in pro wrestling

  17. I kinda feel embarrassed to know that if I ever get in a fight with Mar use she'll kick my ass and knock my teeth out

  18. No wonder Kane has the best right hands and fitness at his age group and size in the company. Gotta admire the big red monster…

  19. Shane McMahon trains mma and Jiu Jitsu with Renzo Gracie. Eva Torres is Renee Gracie’s wife and is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
